It seems the Honolulu Advertiser has gotten weary of reporting on domestic murder-suicides; a small blurb on Saturday, then nothing. The Star Bulletin continues the report of the two Lanai residents, “No Report of Abuse Preceded Killings” 9/2/08. (Lanai is one of Hawaii’s smaller and less populated islands.)
The reports detail that the wife, Kim Batoon, was packing her things mid-day, defiantly leaving her husband, Gerry. The paper intimated there was at least one domestic-violence social worker involved in the case. There were five kids, none at home at the time of the incident, at least two of the kids were the husband’s. The weapon was reported to have been a .22 caliber rifle; a difficult weapon to make a kill with. The husband and wife relationship is described as “estranged” yet, residents, neighbors, and the man’s employer are at a loss as to what could have motivated the deadly incident.
But women know. They and their lawyers profit handily from divorce. Men become destitute because of the legal and financial burdens placed upon them in the aftermath. A man’s money, his kids, his life, and his future are all taken away in similar family breakups occurring daily in Hawaii. The courts don’t only allow such anti-family events, they encourage them.
Violence is not acceptable, but it is predictable under Hawaii’s anti-family divorce laws.
Hawaii needs to make it harder to get divorce. We need to sponsor family education programs that focus on “family.” We need to boot these domestic violence advocates who claim “everything a man does is abusive” and “she can do better elsewhere.” Marriage is tough sometimes, but kids get hurt the most when parents divorce.
The Star also noted that the previous killing on Lanai was also a murder-suicide. According to the Honolulu Advertiser, a man was accused of child abuse. According to the Star Bulletin, 24 year-old man shot his 15 year-old girlfriend and himself. It doesn’t take a scientist to connect the dots.
