Homecoming for You

It’s a function of the public school schedule and a driving force for children of divorce. It is the return to school after the half-summer court-ordered break. Yet, while most children get to spend time with the non-custodial parent, I can only welcome back my child from a language tour of a foreign country from afar. 17 miles on a road where I will never be welcome. Everyday I give a thought and make a wish for my kids. I give more to my girlfriend’s kids. They return from mainland and confuse my name with “Dad.” A better compliment is hard to come by.
